Happy Birthday 8000 Series!

Genelec 8000 Series was released in May 2004 which means that this year we celebrate the 10th birthday of these much loved products. We celebrate it with limited edition products with distinctive raw aluminium enclosure and green woofer grille to make them really stand out from the crowd. The limited edition is available in two models, which are based on existing 8020 and 8030. We call them “8020 RAW” and “8030 RAW”. 

In the continuous quest to provide the best possible monitoring solutions, Genelec marketing and R&D teams joined forces in 2004 to define and create a new range of two-way studio monitors that would clearly outperform its own famous industry standard models. More than two years was devoted to develop the 8000 Series together with worldwide appraised Finnish industrial designer Harri Koskinen who joined the team to bring unique aesthetic and timeless design to the new 8000 Series.

The challenging goal was to minimise all types of distortions, acoustical, electronical and mechanical, in order to achieve a major step forward in performance and functionality. To manufacture such a smooth and elegantly curved enclosure surface, new die-casting methods were investigated to find a feasible alternative to typical wooden MDF enclosure. Lightweight and stiff aluminium enclosure enables maximum internal volume for improved low frequency efficiency as well as reduction of outer dimensions. It also became possible to maximise the overall size of Genelec Directivity Control Waveguide (DCW™), to provide improved control of the monitors’ directivity on- and off-axis.
